Summer is approaching, and the best way to cool off on a hot day is to head to an Ohio lake or a beach.

Ohio's 312 mile coastline is dotted with beaches along Lake Erie, and is home to over 5,000 lakes. If you're looking for a place to beat the heat, these are Ohio's best lakes and beaches for cooling off.

Maumee Bay State Park

Maumee Bay State Park boasts a beach that's nearly half a mile long. Spend the day out on the water and try your luck fishing for walleye, channel catfish, and smallmouth bass. Or, head over to the Maumee Bay Golf Course before cooling off at the pristine beach at this popular state park. Drive to Maumee Bay State Park in under 40 minutes from WaterStone Landing, and stay for the weekend at any of the on-site accommodations.

Atwood Lake

Swimming isn't the only thing you can do at Atwood Lake! Stay active by taking a kayak or canoe out on the water, or try water skiing for something a little more extreme. Cool down your mind with a yoga class on the beach before cooling down your body in the calm waters. There are special events happening all summer at Atwood Lake, including moonlight kayak tours, movies on the lake, and beach parties. Drive here in an hour and a half from Sandhurst Apartments and stay for the week to take advantage of all the exciting things going on at Atwood Lake.

Lake Logan

Lake Logan is the main feature of the Lake Logan State Park, a beautiful green space that's nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians. Cool off while taking in some of the most breathtaking scenery Ohio has to offer. This 400 acre lake features a 527 foot swimming beach, which you can reach in under an hour from Scioto Woods.

Cedar Point Beach

The beach at Cedar Point sits along the east side of a peninsula that jets out from Sandusky into Lake Erie. Spend a day with the soft sand under your feet, or make it a weekend getaway for the entire family. Drive here from Mallard Landing in under two hours, and take full advantage of the thrilling amusement and water parks at Cedar Point.
