Spring is the season of revitalizing, flourishing, and refining.

It is a time to celebrate the sun shining and the temperature rising. A good Spring cleaning will do wonders to your energy levels, and will also brighten up your home.

In Chinese culture, it is believed that a Spring clean should be done to invite new chi (energy) into the home. Many do this using ancient feng shui practices, which uses balance and a connection to nature to harmonize people with their surrounding environment. Using feng shui for Spring cleaning is an excellent way to bring energy back into your life and begin a fresh start in the new season. Here are a few tips on how you can use this ancient practice to liven up your home.

Remove the Clutter

Decluttering is the best way to rejuvenate your home as you start the new season. You should ask yourself three questions:

  • Do I Love It?
  • Do I Need It?
  • Do I Use It?

If the answer is 'no' to at least 2 of those questions, it's time to part ways with it. Getting rid of clutter is one of the biggest factors of feng shui. Having a lot of clutter around means that possible energy can't flow properly. This is especially true in the kitchen, where a clean and clutter-free cooking area is good for your health. Scrub down the refrigerator, the oven, and the drawers. If you're feeling extra ambitious, take it one step further and replace your chemical cleaners with natural ones.

Decorate with Plants

Plants are a great way to use feng shui in your home. They represent new beginnings and connect you with nature. Be sure to put a new plant in your entryway to create positive energy the minute you walk in the door. A plant in the kitchen is also a feng shui concept, especially if it is an aromatic herb plant. If you live in one of our single family homes, decorate your outside patio with beautiful plants and flowers too!

Organize your Closets

Organizing your closets creates an open flow and manifests good things to come. Give all of your closets a deep clean by donating clothes that you no longer wear, and store items that you temporarily don't need (like winter jackets, boots, and holiday decorations). You should also move all of your bright colored clothes to the middle of the closet to create an inspiring and positive focal point, which is especially welcome on those rainy Spring days! Our luxury apartments have exceptional closet space, which makes organization that much easier.
